A Grievance Redressal Committee

A Grievance Redressal Committee is formed at institutions to promote and maintain a conducive and unprejudiced educational environment. It is a measure to develop a responsive and accountable attitude in the Institute and ensure that there is no laxity in terms of fair-deal with the students and others. The committee looks into grievances of the students, parents and others under the chairpersonship of the principal of the concerned School. The main objectives of the Grievance Redressal Committee are as follows:

  • 1. To ensure effective solution to student’s grievances with an impartial and fair approach,
  • 2. Redressal of student’s grievances to solve their academic and administrative problems.
  • 3. Grievance Redressal Committee convenes meetings periodically and takes steps to redress the grievances.
  • 4. Complaints in writing from students, staff and parents may be dropped in ‘Suggestion/Complaint Box’ or submitted to any member of the committee or Heads of the institutions. Speedy actions will be taken for genuine grievances of the students.

A committee consisting of the following 5 members is constituted for Grievance/ Complaint Redressal.

POCSO COMMITTEE: 2024-2025

All children have as equal right to access education in an environment that is safe, protective and conducive to the overall development. The challenges of gender inequality, eve-teasing and sexual abuse in school environment call for increased awareness and creating synergy among parents, teachers and school.

In order to ensure strict compliance of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Committee (POCSO) Act 2012, CBSE has taken several initiatives and actions for creating awareness about sexual exploitation among school children.

The committee will take appropriate and necessary action on reported cases of misbehaviours of sexual offences in the school premises.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY- POSH

OBJECTIVES

SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY- POSH

  • 1. St. Michael’s Sr Sec School believes in providing a safe and protective environment against sexual harassment at workplace to all its employees (permanent and contractual) and students.
  • 2. To provide a streamlined procedure/rules and regulations to deal with any sexual harassment cases.
  • 3. Creating awareness about sexual harassment by regular workshops, publications etc. Changing incorrect perceptions and providing psychological intervention.

SCOPE AND EFFECTIVE DATE

This policy extends to all the students and employees of the school and is deemed to be incorporated in the service conditions and has come into effect from April 2024.

WHAT IS SEXUAL HARASSMENT?

  • 1. Physical contact and advances
  • 2. A demand or request for sexual favours
  • 3. Sexually coloured remarks
  • 4. Showing pornography
  • 5. Stalking
  • 6. Any other unwelcome physical, verbal or non- verbal conduct of sexual nature.

INTERNAL COMPLAINT COMMITTEE. POSH

  • 1. A quorum of 3 members is required to be present for the proceedings to take place.
  • 2. The quorum should include at least 2 female members.
  • 3. Depending on the circumstances, one member from the complainant's department can be co-opted for the proceedings.
  • 4. The meetings should happen every three months in the presence of the external member.

OPTIONS FOR FILING COMPLAINTS

  • 1. Any member from the Internal Complaint Committee
  • 2. Their immediate supervisor/ Class Teacher/ HODs/ Coordinators. Head Boy or Head Girl

GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE

  • 1. The ICC will maintain a register to endorse the complaints and keep the name and contents of the complaints in confidence.
  • 2. ICC will hold a meeting with the complainant within 10 days of receiving the complaint.
  • 3. A copy of the complaint will be given to the respondent so that he is given an opportunity to prove himself innocent and thereafter an inquiry will be conducted.
  • 4. Reconciliation by mutual consent between the complainant and the respondent
  • 5. Examination of the witnesses if any. Statement of the respondent.
  • 6. Cross examination if required.
  • 7. Defence witnesses to be examined (if any). Site inspection (if any).
  • 8. Confrontation
  • 9. Disciplinary proceedings.
  • 10. ICC will send compiled report to the senior management team for further actions.

REDRESS

The School management would take appropriate action against the respondent if found guilty depending on the recommendations from ICC.

The penalties could be as follows -

  • 1. Warning
  • 2. Written Apology
  • 3. Bond of good behaviour
  • 4. Adverse remark in the confidential report
  • 5. Stopping of Increment/Promotion Transfer
  • 6. Suspension
  • 7. Dismissal/Termination
  • 8. If School management wants, they could transfer the case to the Police.
